Annual Employee Performance ReviewThe annual review can be a truly traumatizing experience for top performers who after having exceeded all their objectives find themselves financially in the same place as bottom level workers. People may say that money is not everything, and it is not, but when it comes to differentiating the best workers form the rest of the organization, money is key. To a good worker, there are few things more insulting than realizing that slackers get the same treatment, at least financially, than hard workers. Many times this injustice is encouraged by a flawed system that focuses on flowery documents that tout accomplishments and praise performance, but do not have any relation to financial rewards. For example, receiving a 4% increase after 12 months of being a model of efficiency means very little, when everyone gets a 3% increase just for being employed in the same place.
