Agents who work in call center outsourcing companies are often instructed to change their real names to become more "Americanized".  However, it is fairly easy to select a name that may be too exotic to be believable.  

Some reps who may not be too familiar with the nuances of American culture may attempt to mimic the names of famous people that may sound "cool".  This approach to name selection should be discouraged, as should be anything that deviates too far from more common names. 

While the cartoon above does not likely illustrate a realistic scenario, names of actors, athletes, politicians, and other high profile individuals should be avoided.  Otherwise, the conversation may become more about the name and less about the reason the caller contacted customer care.  In addition, obscure names can also lead to embarrassing realizations about the meaning and context of certain words.
